This Wednesday night, August 25th, is our last summer Wednesday night– so we’re going out with a BANG! This Wednesday we’re going to be having a crazy fun “Minute to Win It” relay– tons and tons of your favorite “Minute to Win It” games. It’s going to be insanely fun, and you’re not going to want to miss it. And then, to top it all off (because who can end summer without it), we’re going to have some yummy grub (a BBQ for those who need a translation). Come out! You don’t have to bring a thing– just invite your friends and come with a great attitude to see if you can win it in a minute! :)

This Wednesday night, we will be coming together to make a bunch of “Homeless Packs”– zip lock bags full of bare essentials (socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, soap, granola bars, water, etc.). One of the ways we can serve our community and love people the way Jesus would, is to care for the poor and those in need. So, on Wednesday night, we’re going to come together and make enough packs for each of you take 2 home with you. The design is that you would take them with you, put them in your parents’ car(s), and then, the next time you see someone in need, offer them your pack.
So what do we need from you? You can come with any of a number of items–
- $5 to help with the cost of the “supplies” we will have bought.
- Any of the above-named “essentials” to be split into multiple packs (i.e. a pack of socks that can be split up, granola bars, small bottled waters, some individually contained toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.)
- OR, if you can’t do EITHER of the following, just come with an attitude to serve. Any “extra” packets that we have after the night (beyond the two per student), we will give out to those students who want to give more away.
So come ready, THIS Wednesday night, August 18th, and take a step to show the love of Christ to those in need.

This Wednesday night, we’re having our annual Water Night at The Herd! So here’s the deal– come at 6:30pm, with as many of your friends as you can, and be prepared to get SOAKED! We’ll be playing a bunch of different games, and it will just be a BLAST! And what do you need to bring to this night? Just your suit! (I know I shouldn’t have to say this, but, be modest in your suits… GIRLS: one-piece only [or a two-piece that has a big dark shirt over it], GUYS: no speedos.. enough said) See you Wednesday!

On Wednesday (July 28th), we’re going to have a beach day at Bolsa Chica State Beach! Any time after noon, you are free to come and hang out with us at the beach. Bring snacks, bring your towels, bring frisbees, bring boogie boards, bring anything you want to have with you for the day! And then, at 6:30pm, we’re going to do worship and a bonfire and talk about what it is that God taught us at camp. Even if you didn’t go to camp, come and spend the day with us and celebrate what God has done in the lives of the people in our group. We are going to be trying to get the closest fire pit we can to the beach parking lot at Warner & PCH (behind Jack-In-the-Box). When you get there, you can call my cell phone to see where we are– (805) 215-8479.

Since we are going to be on the road to camp tomorrow morning at 7:15am, there will be a number of you “left behind” that will need a place to go during the middle hour (9:30-10:30am)– our normal Herd Sunday morning time. So here’s the breakdown:
- 6th Graders: You will be going and hanging out with Children’s ministry like you used to.
- 7th/8th Graders: You will be going and helping out Miss Ernestine downstairs in the Child Care building. Do me proud! Be good helpers!
Love you all! See you when we get back from camp!

We are a week away from Summer Camp 2010 at Hume Lake Christian Camp. We are excited to have 53 Jr. High students and counselors attending this event. As we reach our departure date there are some last minute details to address:
Balance
The final balance is due by Sunday, July 18, 2010. For those of you who were Pre-Registered, your year’s balance is still due at the end of this month.
Registration Process
- All Jr. High School students need to arrive around 6:30am in front of the sanctuary. (The bus is departing no later than 7:15am.)
- All luggage will be separated by sleeping bags and pillows and by luggage. Masking tape, sharpies and black trash bags will be available to mark your stuff if you did not prior to arrival. Please hold on to all of your carry on items or place them against the building away from the items being stored under the bus. If you have medication to turn in please remove from your luggage prior to check in. (remember that all medication must be in its original container and in a plastic bag with the students name on it.)
- All students after dropping off your luggage will need to proceed to the check in table where they will receive their packet of information and proceed to verify your paperwork and go through a mandatory health screening process.
- All students once you have been assessed and cleared to attend camp return your paperwork back to the check in table and receive your wristband. We asked that you stay near the gym as the process should be fairly quick and we will be loading the bus and departing.
- Please note we will be stopping for lunch before and after camp. Have your spending money on you. Once your luggage is on the bus you will not be able to get into it until we arrive.
- Parents we should be arriving around 5:00pm on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Please call me after 3:00pm to check up on our arrival to the church.
- Parents please read the attached forms. Hume Lake has asked us this year to comply with their new procedures. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated. We have asked a team of health professionals to assist and be our health screeners this year. You do not need to have the form complete prior to registration. You will need to be aware of question 6, question 7 and provide supporting documentation if necessary.
- This year students will be able to pre-register for the paintball, high ropes and camp picture. This will be cash only!!! We learned last year that your student may not get a spot for these activities if we don’t collect money ahead of time.
Final Paperwork and Balance
We need all medical release forms (Herd Medical Release forms- if you have not filled out one before) turned in no later than Wednesday, July 14, 2010 to make registration as smooth as possible. Any final balance can be taken care of at check-in. Please make all checks out to Bethany Church.
Lastly, we are excited to experience Summer Camp at Hume Lake this year. Keep praying for our students as they encounter God at camp.
